PM Viorica Dăncilă met with US Ambassador Hans Klemm on Monday, February 12. The visit comes after last week Hans Klemm suggested he should meet the new PM as he knew little to nothing about her. During the meeting the two officials reviewed the Strategic Partnership, Dăncilă pledging to expand it especially in its economic aspects. Whereas Dăncilă referred strictly to these aspects, Hans Klemm highlighted that the meeting also included talks on justice.

Progress Report on the Priorities of the European Commission, February 1 - 7, 2018
In Parliament, the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies resumed their ordinary session on February 1st, 2018. The MPs elected the leadership of the two Standing Bureaus and the leaders of political groups in Parliament. On February 7, the Chamber of Deputies and Senate's joint session included: Preparations for the presidency of the EU Council, a draft Resolution for establishing an inquiry committee for the no-confidence vote against the Grindeanu Gov't, as well as a Resolution aiming to elect the members of the Committee tasked with controlling the Romanian Intelligence Services (SRI), among others. PSD Senator Titus Corlățean was appointed President of the Special Committee in charge of coordinating the parliamentary activities required for the preparation of Romania's Presidency of the EU Council.

Progress Report on the Priorities of the European Commission, January 25 - 31, 2018
With 282 “for”, 136 “against” and one abstention the Parliament validated the Government proposed by PSD-ALDE on Monday, January 29, 2018. This is the third PSD –ALDE Government validated in Parliament within a year. After Mihai Grindeanu and Mihai Tudose who averaged a six-month term, Viorica Dăncilă takes over the Government. The new Government was sworn into office in a ceremony hosted by the Cotroceni Palace the same evening (19:30). In his speech Iohannis highlighted that this is PSD's third Government in a year, a Government that comes "after the double failure of the previous two Governments." Iohannis also expressed his hope that the ruling majority puts a stop to the "governmental hopping".

Progress Report on the Priorities of the European Commission, January 17 - 25, 2018
PSD’s Executive Council (CEx) convened on Monday, January 22 (16:00) to agree on the list of ministers in the newly appointed Dăncilă Cabinet. Political sources told Agerpres news agency that the structure of the Government would not be changed. ALDE announced they are to keep the same portfolios (Foreign Affairs, Environment, Energy and Parliamentary Relations). Sources also said ALDE is going to keep the same Ministers in the future Cabinet, and will also politically endorse Tudorel Toader as JustMin. ALDE postponed the validation of the Ministers for Friday, January 26, PSD confirming that the last talks and the announcement of the new Cabinet are going to be made at the end of the week.

Progress Report on the Priorities of the European Commission, January 11 - 17, 2018
President Klaus Iohannis accepted PSD's proposal for the position of PM. In a brief statement held at 17:30, Iohannis argued that PSD and ALDE have a solid majority in Parliament and that he decided to give them a third chance after two failed governments. President Iohannis confirmed that Romania can have a working PM and Gov't by the beginning of February. In his turn, PSD chairman and president of the Chamber of Deputies Liviu Dragnea stated that the Parliament leadership is ready to summon MPs in an extraordinary session. Hearings in the specialized committees and the vote over the new Government are expected to take place next week. According to the Constitution, after being nominated the PM has 10 days to defend his Government and Government Program in Parliament
