On April 18, a joint plenum of the Parliament voted upon the establishment of two new special committees related to national security and the development of the administrative code, respectively. Based on the model of the Special Committee for Justice (Chair Florin Iordache), the two new Committees are tasked with debating and voting reports on the Laws on national security, and on the Administrative Code. In a press statement from the Parliamentary Summit of Bucharest, President Iohannis put forward two antithetical scenarios concerning the committee on national security issues. On the one hand, PSD’s aim could be to take control of the political institutions and to impose certain legislative changes without proper consultation. On the other hand, the ruling coalition will collaborate with all relevant actors (The Presidency, the Supreme Council of National Defense (CSAT), intelligence services etc.). He reinforced the hope for the latter situation to prevail, awaiting an official collaboration request after the committee is set up.
